Gomen Be Siga

Gomen Be Siga Recipe ጎመን በስጋ አሰራር

Ethiopian collard greens cooked with beef.

What you need

From your kitchen

  • Oil
  • Beef, cubed (bones optional)
  • Red onions, sliced
  • Garlic
  • Gomen (collard greens), cut
  • Salt

How to make it

  1. Cook the beef. Heat a good amount of oil, add the cubed beef, and bones if you want, and cook it.
  2. Add onions, garlic and berbere. Add the sliced red onions, the garlic and a little berbere.
  3. Add the gomen. Add the cut collard greens. They will probably fill the pot, so use a good size one. They shrink as they cook.
  4. Add salt.
  5. Finish with niter kibbeh.

A little of our Berbere gives gomen be siga its warmth, and our Niter Kibbeh finishes it.

Good to know

Gomen be siga means collard greens with meat. For a meat-free version, see our gomen recipe.

Ethiopians cook by feel, not by measuring, so treat the amounts as a starting point.
